Hate list by Jennifer Brown.
Our class just finished reading the book Hate List. I think the book could have been a lot better than what is was. I had a lot of emotions when reading the book because I would always myself in their place and see how they would feel. I was kind of mad at the author because she gave away who the shooter was and that he died. For me it kind of ruined the book a little bit and made it hard to read. It made it hard to stay focused and not get bored. I also thought there was going to be more about Jeremy. I thought that he was going to confess that he made Nick do it or something, but they didn’t say anything about him. He was just done being talked about at the beginning. Some questions that I wondered was, how did Nick meet Jeremy? What made Nick want to start doing pot and just forget about Valerie? Why did Jeremy and his parents know so much about Val and Val not know anything about him? Why wasn’t Jeremy mentioned again throughout the story? It believe that this book is for today’s readers, I don’t think that it is out dated because school shootings do happen and a lot of people are killed. I think it is strange that Valerie’s dad blames it all on her. She didn’t know what Nick was going to do, and she wasn’t trying to tear the family up. I was really shocked that her dad had an affair with his assistant, and I think he went a little over board when he picked her up at the gas station after she was threaten by troy with a gun. It was like he didn’t even care and It was her fault that he did it. So all in all, I think Hate List was an okay book but it could have been a lot better in my opinion.
I think everyone of your observations here is valid.
ReplyDeleteI would like to recommend 19 Minutes by Jodi Picoult. It's not on the list, but I've give you extra credit for reading it. I think it deals with the school shooting issue in a much deeper fashion, it's just a bit long for a classroom novel. I have a copy if you're interested...
i haven't read 19 minutes yet, but I'm pretty sure im going to because it sounds interesting. The book sold is getting good too, so i probably wont be reading it very long because it's not a big boook. thanks for giving me a copy of the other one though :)
